ABOUT ME

I am a freelance illustrator with experience of most areas of illustration. I trained at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design. When I began, most of my work was editorial illustrations for magazines - encompassing lots of different subjects including food, science, travel and business. This led to commissions from card and giftware publishers, and I have illustrated numerous cards and designed wrapping paper for various companies including Roger La Borde in the UK and Peaceable Kingdom Press in the USA.

After illustrating several successful ranges of cards and wrapping paper, I was lucky enough to be approached by Orchard Books who published my first illustrated book – The Arabian Nights. Since then I have mainly worked within children’s books and over the years with most of the major publishers. My work for publishers has covered many topics including folk tales, poetry, christmas stories, and educational. After about 20 years in London I moved to Cornwall with my family and now I can see the sea from the window!

Having initially produced all my work using traditional painting methods, I have recently given myself some time away from commissioned work to re-discover the excitement of creativity from a new, different starting point. This has included combining elements of traditional techniques and digital ones. I like to use textures and incorporate elements of collage, building up layers which sometimes interact in unexpected ways. I am a fan of happy accidents! I hope my work will continue to evolve and to take me in new directions.
